I Built A Home in my Heart

In 2017 I exhibited a series of large, linocut prints on the subject of “Home”. We live our lives inside walls. How do the structures, both physical and metaphysical, shape the people we become. In this series I attempted to reframe my own ingrained social structures and redefine my sense of femininity and place. In my childhood home in the Midwest my environment was saturated with various examples of American Folk Art, mainly of Shaker and Amish origins such as furniture and paintings. The lexicon from those pieces is like my first visual language. These pieces take that language and apply it to subjects I am currently grappling with.
